Our History

Ronnie-George-Tomlinson

Originally formed in the early 1900's to manufacture ash blocks from the clinker produced in the boiler houses at Lister's Mill in Bradford. The business expanded and continued into the production of concrete products before setting up as a small builder's merchant. The business was incorporated in 1963 under the name Manningham Concrete Ltd.

In 1964 two brothers, Ronnie and George Tomlinson, who ran a successful joinery and building contractors, bought Manningham Concrete Ltd. By 1970 the company had outgrown the original site in Manningham, so a virgin Greenfield site was bought on Cemetery Road, Bradford. Thus began the development of Bradford's largest independent Builders', Timber & Plumbers' merchants.

In the following years the business expanded and the growth of the builders' merchant side of the business diminished the importance of block production which was subsequently closed in 1980. Ronnie Tomlinson died in 1993 and George Tomlinson retired in 1998 handing over the running of Manningham Concrete to Ronnie's two sons, Andrew and Alan Tomlinson.

Profits and investment have been continually focused back into the business enabling each department to grow, ensuring every customer is offered the best choice and latest products to meet their requirements. The future of Manningham Concrete as a leading Bradford business is secure with the families third generation involved within the running of company. Andrew's son Rob Tomlinson is the Kitchen & Bathroom Showroom manager having worked at Manningham Concrete since leaving school and Alan's son Michael Tomlinson is the companies Ecommerce manager having returned to the company in 2015 following University and a Management role at IronmongeryDirect.
